From Startup to Success: How Executive Base Network Supported an Entrepreneurial Journey

In the world of entrepreneurship, starting a new venture can be both exhilarating and daunting. For San Ramon businessman Kevin Olison, the journey began with a vision and a plethora of questions.

Kevin is the founder and principal of Olison & Company, a financial planning and wealth management firm. As a Financial Advisor Representative with Grove Point Investments, LLC, Kevin specializes in helping families and individuals prepare for their financial future. His clients are self-made professionals, federal employees, and business owners who are looking to retire comfortably, send their children to college, or assist elderly parents or loved ones with healthcare-related concerns.

“I was looking to start my company or venture out on my own, not really knowing what to do,” Kevin recalls. “With all the questions that I had in my mind, what is needed to build my new practice, how do I know how much office space to purchase, where should I purchase space?”

Enter Executive Base Network (EBN), a San Ramon shared office space that has been Kevin’s business home for the past 18 years.

When Kevin first considered EBN, he was drawn to the flexibility and convenience it offered.

“It was more than I could handle in the short amount of time I had for my vision,” he explains. “Then it dawned on me that I could have an arrangement that offers my staff shared use of various areas which they may not otherwise have had access to, e.g. breakout or leisure areas.”

But the benefits of EBN extended far beyond just the physical space. Kevin found that the shared office environment provided a host of practical conveniences, including “shared utilities, common equipment, refreshments, and a parcel acceptance service.”

Moreover, EBN offered access to conference rooms and the opportunity to network with other professionals, all while providing essential services like IT, security, and reception. “This eliminated time for a build out, technology, and staff resources,” Kevin says. “You can say it was a plug-and-play.”

Kevin’s services include tax management, investment management, retirement strategies, estate conservation, wealth management, insurance and annuity products, cash flow analysis, college funding strategies, and elder care planning.

Over the past 18 years, EBN has been instrumental in supporting Kevin’s business growth. “They have supported my business by adding a layer of support by being my Virtual Assistants before it was commonplace,” he notes. This extra layer of support has been invaluable, reducing issues related to employee absence and ensuring that Kevin’s business commitments to clients are always met.

“It’s nice to have peace of mind knowing the doors are going to open for business and there is a smiling face to greet my clients,” Kevin adds.

For Kevin, choosing EBN was not just a business decision, but a personal one as well. “I had a one-year-old at the time. Starting a new venture, starting a family, and my spouse working in San Jose at the time. This decision made the most sense, to easy childcare cost, commute concerns, and time as a family made the most sense for my situation,” he explains.

When asked what advice he would give to others considering a shared office environment, Kevin emphasizes the importance of evaluating individual needs and preferences.

“The shared office vs private office space decision ultimately comes down to which choice makes most sense for your business,” he says. “If you’re into having a community, then a shared office provides space for like-minded folks to share ideas in the hallways, copier, and mailroom areas.”

For Kevin, the past 18 years with EBN have been a testament to the power of a supportive and collaborative business environment. “Having my own space is not something I could recreate nor looking to do anytime soon,” he reflects. “It’s been a great space for growth, community, and opportunities for me and my business.”

In a world where entrepreneurship can be isolating and overwhelming, Kevin Olison’s story serves as an inspiration. With the support of Executive Base Network, he has been able to navigate the challenges of starting and growing a business, all while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

As Kevin’s journey continues, EBN will be there every step of the way, providing the space, services, and community that have been integral to his success.
